My #1 tip is to meet them where they are already at! Whatever sport or youtuber or video game or hobby or other interest they have- start there. Ask questions, ask them to show you how something works, or try to play with them. It doesn’t matter if you find that hobby boring. If they give you a point of entry, take it. This is about building rapport with your child, getting to know them and understanding what types of things they like, showing them that their interests are important, and building a foundation that will develop your relationship and help manage challenges when they come up.
